Hidden tranquillity in a state of emergency

A prison escapee and an orphan girl - for very different but humane reasons - try to get their hands on a certain reel of film. Yimou Zhang's One Second is a story set during China's 1960s Cultural Revolution and the role of film in it. Emotional drama and ironic comedy interpreted warmly and interestingly.
