Macho sluts running away from the Sun

Life in a small redneck town is not aesthetically appealing and the city's atmosphere seems repulsive. A gym owner is struggling with her abusive family, and although her new relationship with a fitness competitor seems wonderful at first, it too seems to be falling into its own madness. The film is also quite heavy, and the director's (Rose Glass) obvious fondness for slow-motion scenes doesn't help this at all. And the emphasis on despair and toxicity takes the edge off the film's story.
