Everything looks worse in the dark

This movie died of its own absurdity at some point. And even if it had exciting plots and ideas, they didn't know how to tell them. The result is a mess. It's a shame because the technical execution in this disaster movie is fantastic.

Dressed like a candy cane

A young woman who has been on a date for a long time finds herself the victim of blackmail. At a fancy restaurant, she receives threatening messages from an unknown source, and what should be a sweet date night turns into a nightmare! Drop is a damn nice thriller where the tension is present from start to finish, but it still doesn't take itself too seriously. Enjoyable to watch. Directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky).

Hot night in Wichita

These serial killer documentaries are incredibly interesting. It's always baffling how truth can be scarier than fiction. These people are incredibly inventive in their brutality, how their morals and worldviews can be so cruel. In this particular documentary, the serial killer's daughter is featured perhaps more than she should be, more than her father, that's for sure, so the film's somewhat boring nature stems from that.

Anything's good for an alibi

Justice will prevail in the end. Even if it takes a few twists and turns. Louis Malle's 1958 thriller is one of the undisputed classics of crime films. It has withstood the test of time surprisingly well. The Miles Davis soundtrack has also received incredible acclaim.

Crowned by silent night

The contract binds the band to play one more show. What makes it difficult is that they already have other jobs, live on different sides of the world, and especially that they are 40 years older and may not get along with each other. But the contract must be respected. The film does not come close to the perfection of the first This Is Spinal Tap (1984). In fact, it is a very tired attempt to ride on old laurels. The film's best feature is the appearances of special guests like Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Chad Smith and Lars Ulrich.

If you can't fight, dont show your teeth

Maybe this is Darren Aronofsky taking a break, because Caught Stealing is not his kind of film at all. A good crime film, but it can't really tell if it's a serious mafia-style flick or a crime comedy like Snatch, Lucky Number Slevin or Bullet Train. There's some hardcore brutality and violence, but at other times it tries to be funny. And the fun of the film isn't very funny. They even brought a cat - as a fluffy eye-catcher - with them to the shoot, as if to underline the fact that they didn't really know what to do.

Macho sluts running away from the Sun

Life in a small redneck town is not aesthetically appealing and the city's atmosphere seems repulsive. A gym owner is struggling with her abusive family, and although her new relationship with a fitness competitor seems wonderful at first, it too seems to be falling into its own madness. The film is also quite heavy, and the director's (Rose Glass) obvious fondness for slow-motion scenes doesn't help this at all. And the emphasis on despair and toxicity takes the edge off the film's story.

Stuck in the bleeding

This franchise is one of those that emerged in the wake of the Scream films. A clever teen horror thing where the murderer is kept in hidden until the very end. Actually here, only the beginning and the end are strong, everything in between is poorly paced nostalgia. Interestingly enough and in apparent self-parody, one of the characters even says 'nostalgia is overrated', so kudos to that.

In the hall of the mountain king

Deeply frozen, in the depths of the Norwegian mountains, there are fifty-meter-tall trolls. They were once disgraced, banished and forgotten with the arrival of Christianity. When they wake up or are deliberately awakened, there is no guarantee how they will behave. They can be quite nice and cooperative, living side by side with humans. Or they can be evil. Troll 2 has both, but unfortunately, the humans and their stupidity take center stage in the film.

When you can't help but howl

Montevideo, Uruguay. A handful of unsuspecting people go to see a horror movie. There's also a man in the audience who inspires a different kind of horror than in this fictional movie. Makes a great old-school slasher flick. The plot is a side story as long as there's blood splatter and horror takes over. The nuances are for other movies. Interestingly, the villain in the movie is played by Ricardo Islas, the same guy who directed the movie-within-movie Frankenstein: Day of the Beast (2011).

Don't cross the salt line

Close to perfection. Weapons is the horror movie that horror movies are made for. Surrounded by a tormenting and nightmarish atmosphere of fear, it's a mystery that slowly unfolds. And when the story is spiced up with black humor and blind brutality, nothing has limits. One of the best films of the year. Written and directed by Zach Cregger

More twists than a barrel of pretzels

Relies heavily on dialogue. So many ingenious one-liners that the film's serious and sometimes oppressive theme is forcibly twisted into entertainment. Starring Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster.

We are in the gutter

Damn touching movie. And the performance of the two actors (Dongyu Zhou and Jackson Lee) as a model student and petty criminal is just magical. School bullying has been made into a memorable thriller. Chinese filmmaking at its best.

Shot in the name of justice

This comedy film series has been updated quite nicely. Sure, there are some embarrassing things and laugh-out-loud rubbish, but also some really funny, cleverly done scenesFunnier humor than what is being spread these days. Liam Neeson does well as Frank Drebin Jr, although it must have been challenging to fill the classic role left by Lesnie Nielsen.

Nothing counts so much as blood

A good film, but despite its length, it lacks epicness and - at worst - it's a bunch of scenes put together to present a film. The film has a lot of familiar faces, solid Hollywood professionals (Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid, Gene Hackman, Mark Harmon, Michael Madsen, Tom Sizemore, Catherine O'Hara, Jeff Fahey, Bill Pullman, Isabella Rossellini) they are scattered even in small roles, so everything is fine in terms of acting. And Wyatt Earp looks like a truly exemplary western. Conjured up by Lawrence Kasdan. Maybe there are scenes edited here excessively to speed up the narrative. Because it is sometimes annoyingly confusing.
