“Kenkien tarkoitus on helpottaa askellusta, niillä pitää päästä eteenpäin, saapua sinne minne on menossa ja jaksaa vielä takaisinkin. Niillä täytyy kyetä pistämään juoksuksi, jos tulee ilmahälytys taikka jos sattuu muistamaan, että kohta menee kauppa kiinni eikä kaapissa ole piimää.”

He went and hanged himself
This is probably the first novel I've ever read. So for that's sake and because of the need of something relatively light for holidays, it hit the right spot.

Black lipstick went through the roof
Yet another take on the Norwegian Black Metal merrymaking of church burnings and murders. And yet another indefinitive and disorderly take. Although, I must admit I like them chaps Gylve Nagell (Darkthrone) and Varg Vikernes (Burzum) talking shit, it's fun stuff, sometimes.

Tombstones in their eyes
Funnily enough, I hadn't seen this before even though the DVD has been sitting on my shelf for years. At the very least, it was worth the fucking wait.

Las Palmas by Johannes Nyholm
The opener of Funny Films of the North, a DVD collection of Nordic short films, and it’s hysterically funny. One of the funniest cuts I have seen for a very long time.

It appears we may have a problem of some magnitude
Thundering Stephen King horror is always terrific and sometimes they even make a movie of his stories that is spectacularly dead-on.
If they win, they can't live either
Loved the original, it appeared out of nowhere, struck me senseless. The shot-by-shot remake, even though the mere idea seemed utterly pointless, somehow I get it, comes with familiar faces is all.

Ilsa in the chapel
Roger Corman directs Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson. A curious take by its own right, but as an old-school horror film, quite an impressive piece of work with trad. horror stuff like flickering candles, ghosts, crypts, fog and darkness, even witches - yes, them heretics, baby.

A tad bit fuckered in the head
When I saw this for the first time I was a little disappointed, the film seemed somewhat anemic. This time round, it’s still slow in action, but I caught up with things that passed me by the first time and I was truly and thoroughly entertained.

Do you like 'em anchovies?
This was like a replica to Tony Scott's Unstoppable (2010), or vice versa. At close margin, I think I prefer this one, don't know why though, more soul'n'spirit perhaps.

Quote of the day
“They took her license again, third D.U.I. in the last year and a half. I tell her, ‘Jesus Christ, can’t you drink without getting smashed every time?’ She goes, ‘What would be the point?’”

Money, it's pure evil
To my recollection, this was a thriller tinted with pitchblack humour. Well, entertaining, sure, watchable, indeed, but kind of a shallow a story, hadn't aged that well.

Smoking guns in mushroom clouds
I usually am a fan of political thrillers, but this one of war on Iraq on false pretense is lacking in sense of drama and even though the context (based on a true story) is interesting the outcome is downright boring.

Streets are paved with carcasses of imbeciles
Yea, maybe two or three times I had a passing thought it was alright to keep on watching this movie.

A plumbing supply conference
If I'd give this drama a star every time I dozed off watching it, this would fucken be an all-star fucken film.

I absolutely abhor death
Nothing new in the decline of western humour. If I'd give a fuck, I'd be almost ashamed how unfunny most of these comedies are.

Retired extremely doofus
Lots of big Hollywood superstars, renowned Broadway actors and even one true legend. The movie is shit. I wish someone would explain to me what's the point of these fucks.

Peddle your own private hell
You don't see a Finnish movie worth its salt too often. Frozen Land's story ain't that jolly by nature, but its tragicomical appeal is contagious and pretty funny. Though - after watching it the second time now - a few sequences in this episodic film were a bit lenghty hence boring to my liking.
Quote of the day
“Show me a religion that prepares one for death. For nothingness. There’s a church I might enter. Yours prepares one only for more life. For dreams and illusions and lies. If you could banish the fear of death from men’s hearts they wouldn’t live a day. Who would want this nightmare if not for fear of the next? The shadow of the axe hangs over every joy. Every road ends in death. Or worse. Every friendship. Every love. Torment, betrayal, loss, suffering, pain, age, indignity, and hideous lingering illness. All with a single conclusion.”

Terminal commuters in moral leper colony
A fairly quick read, a novel written in dramatic style. Meaning, it basically had just two people discussing. I’ve to start reading everything Cormac McCarhy has ever written, his ability to use words is oftentimes spellbinding.

Wolf's lair
Finished. I didn’t read it through word by word, it has - what- 700 pages, for fuck’s sake. But I leafed it through (in two weeks time), read what I think mattered the most. Strangely enough, even though I’m from the same old-school era as Metalion (the editor) and done most of the stuff he’s done (tape trading, making zines) and been part of the same worldwide yet then still relatively little Underground Heavy Metal scene, I’ve never read but one or two Slayer issues before. Well, now I got ‘em all and I have some catching up to do.

An unflinching dream
I drank two cups of coffee during this erotic thriller and that was easily the most exciting and adventurous thing that happened.

See the Circus Bizarro
We called most of the eighties and early nineties crappy horror movies "cult" and off we went, forgiven and forgotten. Now, the same films, I call 'em crappy horror movies. This, however, is an exception to the rule. It ain't as hilarious as I remembered (naively foolish, more like it), but it's enough quirky oddball fucker to cherish anyways. And I hear there's a sequel in the making, in 3D.

In the valley of dry bones
In no less than within a year I've read True Grit novel by Charles Portis, seen True Grit the movie starring John Wayne, and now this. Joel and Ethan Coen's Grit is very loyal to Portis' book and yet they've enriched the story in so many intricate little ways. One of the best and most entertaining movies I've seen this year.

Death by a thousand cuts
Brutal and quite impressively senseless, this. I, however, never shat myself and probably never feel obsessed to watch it again.
