Quote of the day

“But this was not an ordinary AA group. The failed, the aberrant, the doubly addicted, and the totally brainfried whose neurosis didn’t even have a name found their way to the Work the Steps or Die, Motherfucker meeting: strippers from the Quarter, psychotic street people, twenty-dollar hookers, peckerwood fundamentalists, leather-clad, born-again bikers, women who breast-fed their infants in a sea of cigarette smoke, a couple of cops who had done federal time, male prostitutes dying of AIDS, parolees with a lean, hungry look who sought only a signature on attendance slip for their P.O.’s, methheads who drank from fire extinguishers in the joint, and Vietnam vets who wore their military tattoos and black- or olive-colored 1st Cav. and airborne T-shirts and still heard throbbing of helicopter blades in their sleep.”

(James Lee Burke – Jolie Blon’s Bounce)

Update

This week, I've mostly been listening to

I’ll shove that bat up your ass and turn you into a popsicle

Coolest of stories of a Warriors gang heading home to Coney Island - never mind the funny little inconsistencies in the script like all the tens of thousands of N.Y. taxis disappeared, buses don’t run either and traveling as a civilian is a no-no.
Brilliant movie, looks awful nice, presents amazing gangs (Warriors, Gramercy Riffs, Rogues, Turnbull A.C.‘s, Orphans, Baseball Furies, Lizzies and Punks) with coolest of outfits.

Angels of death squadron

Well-acted yet somewhat uneventful drama. If I had - and I sure had - high hopes for this, I was sourly disappointed.

Dead on

Can’t wait to see how they made TV of this part of the series.

ROFLAW (rolling on the floor laughing and wanking)

Ok now, people are crying out their fucking hearts over this, it was deemed Oscar-worthy (Sandra Bullock) and all the reviews I read were uber-positive.So goddamn positive that you could think that I’m missing something, but I am not. In fact, The Blind Side is cliché-ridden piece of shit, there are literally thousands of movies like this out there and they are shit too. If this was ok, it was ok only sometimes, but it’s not nearly, not even close, that good as people seem to think it is.

Quote of the day

“Hand to God, the bible stopped the bullet – it would have ruined the fucker’s heart. Had he had another in front of his face, the man would be alive today.”

Update

This week, I have mostly been listening to:

Bollocks is worse than arse

A buddy movie with a serious undertone. But altogether, a feel-good film with such dead-on brilliant writing that you don't see so often. I truly enjoyed it.

Business for keeps

Classic film noir, not so long ago I saw the 1990 remake starring Gene Hackman and Anne Archer which was no match but a good one too.

And to the dust shall we return

I’ve said about liking small town movies and vigilante movies. I’m also liking post-apocalypse movies. Apart from the hell on earth of sort, the story itself in The Book of Eli was a bit of a dull fuck to be honest. But a good movie nonetheless, certainly looked like a million bucks and has an interesting cast with people such as Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Tom Waits, Malcolm McDowell and Michael Gambon.

Update

I’m having Expresso Mokka Pinotage and another South African wine, Highland Bird whiskey and local beer this very moment - and I’m playing a poker tournament, there’s some music somewhere there in the background (David Bowie is playing). Not much more to say.

Quote of the day

“Nothing existed around him. There was only the noise in his head, the mind in time. When he died he would not end. The world would end.”

(Don DeLillo – Cosmopolis)

No pain, no Caine

Wasn’t this something of a cool motherfucker. I mentioned some lines ago something about liking small town movies - add vigilante movies to that list. Harry Brown presents Michael Caine at his very best and a deep nod to Sean Harris, a relatively more unknown actor, but a small top-notch fucken performance here. Must mention though that somewhere along the line the director lost his focus and the film stumbles in a few naïve and irritating plot holes and fails to deliver the reality it tried to pursue.

Cops and deadheads

Well, I had a long weekend, I drank massive amounts of alcohol, another hangover, another hangover -movie, something very easy on my mind and soul. I remember liking this back then some ages ago, when I was younger, it deals with satanic issues, that was cool way back when. Like I expected, beautiful memory was shattered, the movie is garbage.

I felt shitty after the film, wasting an hour and half ain’t my idea of fun, that’s why this weird logic compelled me to watch another movie and everything would be allright again. So, I saw this one:

Of course, it was utter garbage as well, don’t know what Romero was thinking.

Quote of the day

“I’ve been bawled out, balled up, held up, held down, hung up, bulldozed, blackjacked, walked on, cheated, squeezed and mooched; stuck for war tax, excess profits tax, sales tax, dog tax, and syntax. Liberty Bonds, baby bonds, and the bonds of matrimony, Red Cross, Blue Cross, and the double cross; I’ve worked like hell, worked others like hell, have got drunk and got others drunk, lost all I had, and now because I won’t spend or lend what little I earn, beg, borrow or steal, I’ve been cursed, discussed, boycotted, talked to, talked about, lied to, lied about, worked over, pushed under, robbed, and damned near ruined. The only reason I’m sticking around now is to see WHAT THE HELL IS NEXT?”

(Mr. Watkins – husband to Mrs. Watkins and the owner of a dog named White Fong a.k.a. Bill – Blue Highways)

Beaten up by life

Like so often, in a vexing case of hangover, you want to see something easy, something lightweight. So I picked up this fucker. Exactly what I was looking for, not too goofy, but cool sit-on-your-arse no-brainer. Also, I have a thing for American small town movies - this one depicts a small fishing town of Montauk, Long Island. Behind a stupid cover and silly name, Paperman was an ok a movie and had a more in-depth feel to it than I expected.

De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté

One of those movies that hasn’t anything particularly annoying or downright wrong in ‘em, but then again, you can’t be too jazzed about it either.

Quote of the day

“The perception of the possibility of greatness of myself has always been followed by the desire to murder the nearest unworthy.”

(Norman Mailer)

Godawful whore

Thought of starting a day with a little dose of laughter. It this movie was supposed to be a comedy, I didn’t laugh, not once. If it was a drama, didn’t care one way or the other.

Train kept-A-rollin'

It's not exactly whiskey, but gotta get some.

Quote of the day

“And what a day it had been so far: a client! Bullets for my gun! Five dollars! And best of all, a dead landlady!”

In limbo

This Nolan guy sure knows how to shoot a movie, it all looks swell, spectacular and what-not, but I wouldn’t mind the writing be a little more challenging.

Life full of nothing

Better than your average a movie. Beautifully structured, scripted and acted, however wasn’t really such a five-star fucker that’s been advertised practically everywhere. A twist of some sort in the end helped hell of a lot.

Quote Of The Day

"Please tweet and annoy the world. I've discovered how fucking easy that is. ROFLAW. (Rolling on the floor laughing and wanking.)"

(Ricky Gervais)

All dead do not enter

Never been much of a comic book addict, not in my adult years at least. Decided to pick up this one though because of the television show based on it. Haven’t seen the show, mind you, but according to people who have, it’s supposed to be something of a coolest motherfucker out there.

Born a perv, he’ll die a perv

Solid, good film making, slow-moving yet not boring. Perhaps ain’t quite there in Todd Solondz’s best works, but his quirky scripts with loads of snappy one-liners go a long way.

All this and more

A stand-up comedian struggles to co-parent his autistic son. A simple story, seen many times before, but solid and entertaining little flick...
